RULE 3 – TOURNAMENT FORMAT
SINGLES
The Singles portion of the event cost is $45 per entry ($8.55 Lineage, $5 USJTC Prize Fund, $31.45 Prize Fund). Entries are capped as 116 per squad.
Each squad will consist of 3 game blocks across 6 lanes. Bowlers may enter more than one squad, but can only cash once within their division. Scholarship winners will be determined by the combining the pinfall for all bowlers for all squads within each of the four divisions. Bowlers will be allowed a maximum of 2 re-racks per game without permission
from tournament staff. Additional re-racks must be requested from the tournament director or lane monitor. Any bowler who takes additional re-racks during a game without permission from a tournament staff member will be given a zero for the entire frame.
JUNIOR GOLD QUALIFYING - OPTIONAL
The singles portion of the event will be used as an optional event for qualifying for the 2022 Junior Gold National Championship. Each singles squad will be a separate qualifier. Each participating bowler MUST be a 2021-22 Junior Gold Member in order to participate. Memberships can be purchased online at www.bowl.com. Memberships WILL NOT be offered at the event. The divisions, cost and ratio of junior gold spots awarded will be determined once USBC has established their guidelines and rules for the 2022 event.
DOUBLES
The Doubles portion of the event is $90 per team entry/$45 per bowler ($17.10 Lineage, $10 USJTC Prize Fund, $62.90 Prize Fund). Entries are capped at 58 teams per squad.
Each squad will consist of 3 game blocks across 6 lanes. Bowlers may enter more than one squad and may cash more than once as long as it is with a different partner. A bowler in the 14 and under division may bowl with a partner in the 15 and older division. In that instance, their team score will count toward the 15 and older division. Scholarship winners will be determined by combining the pinfall for all teams for all squads within each of the two divisions. Bowlers will be allowed a maximum of 2 re-racks per game without permission from tournament staff. Additional re-racks must be requested from the tournament director or lane monitor. Any bowler who takes additional re-racks during a game without permission from a tournament staff member will be given a zero for the entire frame.
TEAMS
The Team portion of the event is $400 per team. ($43.00 Lineage, $357.00 Prize Fund). Entries are capped at 58 teams.
• ROSTERS - The entry form will act as the official team roster. Each team will be comprised of a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 6 bowlers (see below for Team Lineup). The submitted roster IS NOT the order in which the team must bowl. Team divisions are determined by the age of the oldest bowler on the team. A bowler in the 14 and under division may bowl with a team in the 15 and older division. In the event that a team has 4 or less bowlers, the team will receive a “ZERO” for each frame in which the missing bowler(s) would have bowled.
• COACHES - Each team will be allowed AND MUST PROVIDE 1 official coach who will be allowed in the setee area and will be responsible to set and change the lineup, make substitutions and help and offer advice to his/her team. It is preferred that coaches are certified, but it is not required. If a team is unable to provide a coach, the Tournament Director will provide one.
• PLAYING RULES – QUALIFYING
- Format - Before the start of Game 1, each team will receive 15 minutes of practice, 7 ½ minutes on each lane on your starting pair. Teams will bowl 10 games across 5 pair. Teams will bowl one game on one lane, swap lanes on the pair for the next game, and then move to a new pair. A schedule of lane assignments will be provided to every coach upon check in. All games will be bowled “Baker Style”. Bowler 1 bowls frames 1 and 6, bowler 2 bowls frames 2 and 7, etc.
- Team Lineup – A coach may change the order of the team’s lineup BEFORE the start of any new game. Team Lineups CANNOT be changed once the first ball of a game has been thrown unless a substitute is used. If a team has a substitute on its roster, it may substitute that bowler at any time during a game. The substitute must then bowl in every frame for the substituted bowler in that game. Once a bowler has been removed from the lineup, they cannot return to the lineup in the same game but may return before a new game begins.
- oBowling Out of Turn – It is important that the coach and bowlers insure they bowl when it is their correct turn. If, at any time, it is determined that a bowler has bowled out of turn or illegally, that shot will not count. The team will receive a “ZERO” score for any/every ball thrown where the correct bowler did not bowl.
- oRe-Racks - Teams will be allowed a maximum of 2 re-racks per game without permission from tournament staff. Additional re-racks must be requested from the tournament director or lane monitor. Any bowler who takes additional re-racks during a game without permission from a tournament staff member will be given a zero for the entire frame.
- Qualifying Results – THERE IS NO CUT AFTER QUALIFYING. ALL TEAMS WILL QUALIFY FOR THE FINAL MATCH PLAY BRACKET. Total pinfall for the 10 games of qualifying will determine each team’s seeding into the final match play bracket. DO NOT TAKE QUALIFYING LIKELY. YOUR QUALIFYING POSITION MAY INFLUENCE WHETHER YOU RECEIVE ONE OR MORE BYES IN THE MATCH PLAY FINALS. IT ALSO MAY DETERMINE WHETHER YOUR TEAM CASHES BASED UPON HOW MANY TEAMS IN EACH DIVISION RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIP.
• PLAYING RULES – MATCH PLAY FINALS
- General – All of the rules noted above for qualifying are the same for the match play finals (see Format below with respect to Ball Surface). Each team’s position in their division bracket will be determined by their finishing position in the qualifying round. In the event that two or more teams have the same qualifying total pinfall, position in the match play final bracket will be determined by their highest individual game. Depending on the number of teams competing in each division, it is possible that a team could receive one or more byes based on their position in the qualifying round.
- Format – Each team will receive 10 minutes of practice, 5 minutes on each lane prior to the start of each round. Teams will bowl best of three single elimination matches against the other teams in their division bracket and swap lanes after each game of match play. The higher seeded team from qualifying will have the choice of which lane they would like to start on. Teams will receive one point for winning a match play game and ½ point for a tie game. The first team to reach 5 points will be declared the winner of the match. If a match is tied at 1 ½ points each, there will be a 9th and 10th frame rolloff to determine a winner. If a tie still remains after the rolloff, the teams will continue rolling off the last two frames until a winner is declared. Winning teams will continue in their bracket and losing teams will be eliminated from the tournament. Matches in each division will continue until there are two teams left who will bowl for the championship in each division. The championship matches will be best of seven game matches.
.
RULE 4 - BOWLING BALL SPECIFICATIONS –
Bowling balls must meet all USBC specifications as defined in the latest edition of the Equipment Specifications and Certification Manual. Ball surfaces may be altered or changed at any time up to the first ball thrown in competition by the bowler. No substance may be placed on the outer surface of the bowling ball. The outer surface of the bowling ball may only be cleaned with a dry towel once the bowler has started competition. Once a bowler has thrown their first ball in competition they MAY NOT alter the surface of ANY ball. If a bowler is caught altering the surface of a ball illegally, that ball will be taken out of play for the remainder of qualifying. If after a first ball is thrown and the surface of a ball is affected by the machine, it MUST be brought to the attention of the Tournament Director. The Tournament Director is the only person who may permit a subsequent alteration of the surface of a ball. For the match play final bracket only, ball surfaces MAY be altered before the start of each round until a ball is thrown in competition.
RULE 5 – LANE COURTESY –
To maintain a consistent pace of play at all times, all bowlers are required to observe one lane courtesy and deliver the ball in a reasonable amount of time.
RULE 6 – OIL PATTERNS –
Each event will be bowled on a different, certified sport pattern. Due to time constraints, there will not be a re-oil between squads for singles and doubles or between qualifying and match play for the team event. The three oil patterns being used will be made public by July 23, 2021. They can be found on the following Facebook Pages: Keglers Korner, Mid Atlantic Bowling Events and the US National Junior Team Challenge event page.
RULE 7 – PLAYERS AREA –
Only bowlers and authorized tournament and center personnel are allowed in the players area during singles and doubles competition. Additionally, authorized coaches will be allowed only during the Team event.
The center has a large room at the high end of the house which will serve as the bowler’s paddock. Only participating bowlers may enter this room. It will be locked at the end of competition each night in the event bowlers would like to leave their equipment in the center.
RULE 8 – DRESS CODE –
Tournament staff will determine if the uniform worn by the participant is acceptable. If the uniform is deemed unacceptable, the participant will be required to change the uniform immediately. If the participant is unable to change into an acceptable uniform, they will be removed from competition and provided a refund for that entry.
- SHIRTS – While in competition, bowlers shall wear a bowling shirt with a collared, V neck, rib lined, or banded neckline. Mock collars must be a minimum of three-quarters of one inch. All shirts must have finished sleeves for all competition. Females may wear a sleeveless shirt with a butterfly collar only if the sleeves are finished. IT IS REQUIRED THAT BOWLERS HAVE THEIR NAMES ON THEIR SHIRTS WHILE IN COMPETITION. This is in the interest of all bowlers since there will be college coaches and scouts in attendance.
- PANTS – While in competition, male bowlers are required to wear slacks/khakis. Pants must not contain drawstrings or elastic bottoms. Pants must have a zipper and a button. Jeans or denims are not permitted. While in competition, female bowlers are required to wear slacks, skirts, capris, skorts or walking shorts. All skirts, capris, skorts or walking shorts must be below the bowler’s fingertips when they are standing with their arms hanging loosely at their side. Jeans, denim and yoga pants are not permitted.
- HEADGEAR – No covering or sunglasses may be worn during competition to include hats, caps, bandanas. Headgear may be allowed due to religious or other reasons but MUST be approved in advance by the Tournament Director. No ear buds, ipods or headphones will be allowed while competing. Additionally, no cell phones will be allowed in the setee area while competing.
RULE 9 – PRIZE FUND –
All awards for all three events will be made in the form of scholarship funds, will be held in SMART #13215 and will be placed in the recipient’s SMART account within 30 days of the final date of competition. Distribution of the prize funds for the singles and doubles events will be posted on site. Because of all of the added money from the weekend (money from entry fees and the major raffle) the distribution of the prize fund for the team
event will be announced during a livestream the following day. Additionally, a complete, transparent accounting of all money taken in, money added, lineage paid and scholarship awards paid out will be made public.
- SINGLES – Scholarships will be awarded in each of the four divisions based on the total number of entries in each of the four divisions and paid based on a ratio of 1:5. Bowlers may bowl more than once but receive only one scholarship prize for singles. In the event of a tie for any position, the scholarship will be divided equally for the positions tied.
- DOUBLES - Scholarships will be awarded in each of the four divisions based on the total number of entries in each of the two divisions and paid based on a ratio of 1:5. Bowlers may bowl more than once and win more than one scholarship prize as long as it is with a different partner. In the event of a tie for any position, the scholarship will be divided equally for the positions tied.
- TEAMS - Scholarships will be awarded in each of the two divisions based on the total number of entries in each of the two divisions and paid based on a ratio of no higher than 1:3. All teams earning scholarship funds will receive at least twice their entry fee.
RULE 10 - RULES AND REGULATIONS – The tournament Director reserves the right to make changes to, and have final decision with, all rules and regulations contained herein. All questions should be directed to Billy Gasn at (301) 801- 7474.
